To Safeguard Defib Maintenance:
The Cairnryan Hall Welfare & facilities Group Ltd installed two Defibrillators (within purpose built storage cabinets) within the village. The first on the wall of the Village Hall at the 'Claddy' end of the village with the kind permission of D&G Council. The second, more recent installation, was at the Cairn end of the village on a small plot of public use land (owned by the Parker Family) near to the north end village noticeboard.

But it's not just a matter of installing a Defib, then leaving things just available in case they're needed. Our Defibs are public access facilities that need to be maintained ready and available for public use at any time (24/7) - just if and when required.

Both defibs are listed on an internet based database known as 'The Circuit'. This system lists all the public access defibs in Scotland, with the information held instantly available to Scottish Ambulance Control operators. So if someone rings 999 because of a suspected heart attack (or probably and perhaps more likely, if it is suspected a casualty has gone into cardiac arrest) the ambulance controller will know instantly where the nearest Defib is located and how it can be urgently accessed.

As part of 'The Circuit' system we need to ensure that the defibs are indeed properly maintained and, importantly, securely stored in a manner ready for public use.

Both Defibs and there respective storage facilities have now fully passed to the Cairn Resilience Group

So perhaps one of the principal aims of the Cairn Resilience & Welfare Group is to ensure the crucial proper and continued maintenance of our Village Defibs - in a fit and ready condition for use at any time.

Social,Welfare & Resilience:
Many of our village residents, particularly at the Cairn end, are 'of an age' and in retirement. Some may be less fit than they used to be. Making their way to the village hall to take part in social events may be problematical or inconvenient to some.

So one of our main aims is to promote resident accessibility to our emmerging pop-up community cafe at the Cairn end of the village. We like to think this could become a future social hub - not just to get a cuppa or bowl of homemade soup - but to evolve into a general social facility - importantly with easy access to folk living at 'the Cairn' part of the village.

Of course supporting the cafe may also support essential fund raising for the main aims of our Group. So for more on The Cairn Community Cafe click HERE

"Resilience" also means trying to have the means to be available to step in to help members of the Cairn community cope with unforeseen or unexpected problems.
Obviously we are not a professional emergency service - in a full blown emergency (or if there is any danger to health or injury) do not hesitate in dialing 999 to get prompt professional assistance.

The Community Resilience Plan:
Working with Dumfries & Galloway's Senior Resilience Officer and staff, we have compiled a Community Resilience Plan for the purpose of emergency planning in the village and surrounding areas. This document lists important contact details with folk and agencies that may be able to help following an emergency, or 'near emergency' situation. It's all about making sure that all the right folk are notified to bring the appropriate and required assistance to help deal with the aftermath of such an 'emergency'.

The Cairn Resilience Group has very specific Public Liabilty Insurance relating to our actions in implementation of the plan.

GDPR rules prevent us from listing the plan and it's contact participants on this website, but D&G Council have copies of the plan, as obviously we do. For GDPR security purposes we no longer supply copies to the village community council, but the necessary information would be shared in the event of a genuine emergency scenario. The plan is there ready and able for putting into action. We will be distributing any guidance leaflets etc in due course - but of course don't hesitate to contact us to see if we can help - 07702 242100.
